{"id":1786,"date":"2020-01-24T05:32:17","date_gmt":"2020-01-23T22:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dstarthailand.com\/?p=1786"},"modified":"2026-08-03T10:58:39","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T03:58:39","slug":"pi-star-terminal-mode-with-icom-id-51a-plus2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dstarthailand.com\/?p=1786","title":{"rendered":"Pi-Star Terminal Mode With Icom ID-51 Plus2"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kg5eiublog.files.wordpress.com\/2019\/01\/terminal-mode-img_3894.jpg\" alt=\"ID-51a Plus 2\" class=\"wp-image-2207\"\/><figcaption>ID-51A Plus2 Terminal Mode<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icomamerica.com\/en\/products\/amateur\/handheld\/id51aplus2\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Icom ID-51a Plus 2<\/a> in terminal mode with the  new beta version of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pistar.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Pi-Star 4.0<\/a> RC3 and a Raspberry Pi  for D-Star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With  version 4.0 of Pi-Star (as of Jan 25, 2019 in beta RC3)  it is \npossible to use pi-star and an Icom ID-51a Plus 2 in DV terminal mode as\n a D-Star Repeater with Pi-Star as the controller.   (This also will \nwork with an Icom 4100).   You will need the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Icom ID-51a Plus 2<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.icomamerica.com\/en\/products\/amateur\/handheld\/id51aplus2\/options.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Icom OPC-2350LU Smart Phone Data Cable kit<\/a><\/li><li>Raspberry Pi (that supports pi-star 4.0)<\/li><li>SD-Card for Raspberry Pi with Pi-Star loaded<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4809\/46825060342_e8e4e1686e.jpg\" alt=\"ID-51A Terminal Mode\"\/><figcaption>Portable ID51A D-Star Repeater Terminal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.icomamerica.com\/en\/products\/amateur\/handheld\/id51aplus2\/options.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Icom OPC-2350LU cable kit<\/a>\n is used to hook the ID-51a to the Raspberry Pi via the USB port.   (My \nID-51A Plus 2 came with the cable kit) With ver 4.0 (currently in beta \nRC3 as of Jan 25, 2019) of Pi-Star you can configure Pi-Star in D-Star \nrepeater mode.  It is important to select Controller Software Under the \nControl Software section as DStarRepeater \u2013 then reboot, then under \nGeneral Configuration select the Radio\/Modem Type as Icom Radio in \nTerminal Mode (DStarRepeater Only) and finish configuring pi-star, my \nconfig looks like: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1eJpCDmSbSep5MxjA9trVPXsTAnceqGQs\/preview?\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order for pi-star to \u201csee\u201d the Icom ID-51 in terminal mode via USB\n you will need to put it in DV mode; from the main menu 4\/4  select DV \nGateway then select Terminal Mode you should see your call sign with the\n word Terminal below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kg5eiublog.files.wordpress.com\/2019\/01\/terminal-mode-img_3894.jpg?w=768\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2207\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this point, via a web browser into the pi-star dashboard  (<a href=\"http:\/\/pi-star.local\">http:\/\/pi-star.local<\/a>.\n providing you have set up pi-star on Raspberry Pi) you can link and \nunlink D-Star reflectors and repeaters \u2013 using the ID-51A as your mic \nand speaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2eqpdok\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4913\/46877455671_981552536e_z.jpg\" alt=\"pi-star-db-terminal-mode\"\/><\/a><figcaption>pi-star dashboard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pi-Star works as it would with a ZUMSpot or similar hardware \u2013 only \nusing the ID-51A as the \u201chardware\u201d  here is the Admin screen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
